Lam Sai-hung: HK welcomes Beijing partners to explore business and logistics cooperation
The Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Mr. Lam Sai-hung, emphasized the inseparable economic and trade ties between Beijing and Hong Kong while attending the 27th Beijing-Hong Kong Economic Cooperation Symposium and Beijing-Hong Kong Cooperation Promotion Conference.
Lam noted that HK has long been a major gateway for trade and goods movement between Mainland China and the rest of the world. As the only region in China practicing common law, HK remains the preferred destination for international investors engaged in trading with Mainland China.
He highlighted HK's comprehensive and efficient sea, land, and air transport networks. The booming e-commerce market in recent years has further bolstered HK's position as a key hub connecting Mainland China with global markets. Many prominent Mainland e-commerce companies regard HK as a springboard for expanding into international markets. Meanwhile, foreign e-commerce companies have also set up warehouses in HK, using the city to distribute their products to the Chinese market. This has made HK one of the top choices for regional e-commerce distribution centers, he said.
Lam also emphasized the close economic and trade relationship between HK and Beijing, noting that HK has long been Beijing's largest source of foreign investment. Major companies from both regions have substantial two-way investments in trade and logistics.
With the rapid development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area—two of China's key economic regions—demand for trade and logistics between these areas is expected to grow strongly in the future.
Lam expressed hope that attendees at the event could gain deeper insights into the latest developments in trade and logistics between Beijing and HK, actively explore ways to strengthen cooperation, and elevate the partnership between the two cities to new heights.
