
Today (Sept. 19), the Air Accident Investigation Authority (AAIA) issued a preliminary report on a serious incident involving a Cathay Pacific Airbus A350-1041. The incident, which involved an engine fire, occurred on Sept. 2 at Hong Kong International Airport.
Upon inspection, investigators found that a secondary fuel manifold hose, protected by a steel braid, had ruptured inside engine number two of the aircraft, revealing a significant hole. Signs of fire were evident from the black soot observed in the rear core compartment of the engine. Burn marks were also found at the bottom of both thrust reverser cowls.
The AAIA highlighted that the ruptured secondary fuel manifold hose posed a potential risk of fuel leakage, which could lead to an engine fire. The investigation team is currently analyzing the collected data and information in detail to determine the circumstances and causes of the incident, with the aim to prevent similar occurrences in the future and to identify areas requiring further investigation and focus.
