Typhoon Bebinca leaves Shanghai: Pudong and Hongqiao airports resume operations
The Central Meteorological Observatory of CMA reported that by 3 p.m., Bebinca, now downgraded to a severe tropical storm, had moved away from Shanghai to Wuxi in Jiangsu. Pudong and Hongqiao airports resumed operations in the afternoon, allowing flights to take off and land.
Bebinca made landfall in Shanghai this morning as a strong typhoon, marking the strongest typhoon to hit the area in 75 years. Bebinca caused numerous reports of fallen trees, waterlogging, and billboard collapses. The city has relocated over 410,000 people; all highways were closed for control, and speed restrictions were imposed on elevated roads.
It is expected that Bebinca will continue moving west-northwest, gradually weakening. Over the next two days, parts of Zhejiang, Shanghai, Anhui, Jiangsu, and Henan face a medium to high risk of typhoon-related disasters.
