PHYSICAL Fitness & Beauty closes | CE: Govt looking into cooling-off period before payment
Chain fitness and beauty group PHYSICAL Fitness & Beauty announced its closure last Friday (Sept. 6), causing heavy losses to those who had paid in advance. Responding to these today (Sept. 14), the Chief Executive, John Lee, said the Government had set up an inter-departmental task force to follow up on the investigation and two suspects had been arrested.
As to whether a cooling-off period would be introduced to enhance consumer protection, he said the Government had conducted a consultation earlier and the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau was now reviewing the situation and would make a decision in the light of the circumstances.
Lee reminded consumers to be mindful of their rights. He pointed out that there was legislation against unfair marketing practices, particularly those involving fraudulent behavior and misrepresentation.
