Meizhou West to Longchuan West section of Longyan-Longchuan high-speed railway to open on Sept. 14
China Railway announced today (Sept. 12) that the newly-built Meizhou West to Longchuan West section (Meilong section) of the Longyan to Longchuan high-speed railway will officially begin operations on Sept. 14.
Once operational, travel time between Meizhou West and Guangzhou East will be as short as 1 hour 47 minutes, and the journey to Shenzhen North from Meizhou West will take just 1 hour 36 minutes.
For the first time, a direct high-speed rail service will connect Hong Kong to Meizhou, with an estimated travel time of approximately 1 hour 45 minutes, which is more than 50% faster than the current route that requires a transfer at Shenzhen North Station.
The Meilong section of the Longyan-Longchuan high-speed railway will form part of a high-speed rail loop, linking with other routes such as the Meizhou-Shantou high-speed railway, Ganzhou-Shenzhen high-speed railway, Xiamen-Shenzhen high-speed railway, and the Guangzhou-Shenzhen section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong high-speed railway.
This loop will connect several key cities, including Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Dongguan, Huizhou, Heyuan, Meizhou, Jieyang, Chaozhou, Shantou, and Shanwei.
This development is expected to further enhance the exchange of people and economic interactions along the route, fostering coordinated regional economic and social development. For residents of HK, traveling northward will become even more convenient with this new service.
