Typhoon Bebinca has been upgraded and may hit Okinawa this weekend
According to the Central Meteorological Observatory of CMA, the tropical cyclone Bebinca has been upgraded to a severe tropical storm as of today (Sept. 11), with maximum winds near its center reaching Category 10 (25 meters per second).
Current predictions from the Japan Meteorological Agency place Bebinca off the east coast of Okinawa by the morning of Sept. 14, which is expected to cross Okinawa by the morning of Sept. 15, and get close to the eastern coast of mainland China by the morning of Sept. 16.
Meteorological experts said that Bebinca will move northwest, maintaining a certain distance from Taiwan. From Sept. 15 to 16, the northern part of Taiwan may experience local brief showers due to the peripheral circulation of the cyclone, and coastal areas may be affected by long waves, according to Taiwan media.
The Zhejiang Provincial Climate Center believes there is a high possibility that Bebinca will cause landfall along China's southeastern coast around Sept. 16.
