More than 2,400 syphilis infection cases have been found in Tokyo from January to early September this year. The rate of infection continues to increase.
In 2023, more than 3,000 people were infected with syphilis in Tokyo. Maybe the number of infected people in 2024 will exceed that of previous years.
According to statistics, the male-to-female ratio of infected people is 7 to 3, with males in their 20s and 50s and females in their 20s and 30s. Some asymptomatic infected people may transmit syphilis without getting notice of it.
Syphilis is a serious disease that affects the whole body and can be fatal. Some experts point out that there is a risk of infection from safe sex (e.g. syphilis lesions on other parts of the body). To prevent syphilis, avoid having sex with unspecified groups of people and seek medical advice if you notice any symptoms.
