Caricature: Japan faces rice shortage
Since July this year, some areas in Japan have been experiencing a "rice shortage," which has now spread to more places. Some supermarkets in major cities such as Tokyo and Osaka have been out of stock or restricted in their rice purchases, with some posting notices saying, "A family is limited to one pack a day." An emergency survey conducted by the Osaka Prefectural Government last week showed that about 80 percent of the regional retail stores were out of rice stock.
