The opening ceremony of the 2024 Hong Kong-Guangdong-Macao-Taiwan Youth Entrepreneurs Summit was held today (Sept. 10). Participating in the ceremony were National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Vice Chairman Leung Chun-ying, Hong Kong's Chief Executive John Lee, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Zheng Yanxiong, and Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Hong Kong SAR Cui Jianchun, among others.

Leung Chun-ying stated in his speech that the national "14th Five-Year Plan" proposes to support Hong Kong in enhancing its status as an international shipping center, helping Hong Kong transition towards higher value-added high-end shipping services, including financing, insurance, legal, and registration services related to vessels.

"Hong Kong is the world's largest ship registration location; however, the shipping services industry is not the only growth point for Hong Kong's economic development."

He further pointed out that the Hetao area in the New Territories of Hong Kong is collaborating with Shenzhen to develop the world's largest new high-density technology park, covering an area of 4 square kilometers, aiming to provide a science and technology innovation platform that leverages the benefits of "one country" and the conveniences of "two systems" for the new generation of technology professionals.

Leung also mentioned that he is currently exploring extending cooperation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to Fujian Province.

"In addition, Guangdong Province and Hainan Province are also recruiting Hong Kong experts and scholars to join the consultation committees for Guangdong-Hong Kong cooperation and Hainan-Hong Kong cooperation... I hope to promote precise alignment and cooperation between the mainland and Hong Kong through in-depth consultations," he said.
