Chinapedia | Mid-Autumn Festival in HK: Drone Show & Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance
It is almost the Mid-Autumn Festival, the time for families to reunite and have a good time together. This year, the Mid-Autumn Festival will fall on Sept. 17, and there are even more festival events across the city! The Tai Hang Fire Dragon will be upgraded, with the scope of performances expanded for three consecutive nights (Sept. 16-18). On the Mid-Autumn Festival Night (Sept. 17), there will be a Mid-Autumn Festival-themed drone show, in which 1,000 drones will weave multiple festival scenes to convey festive blessings.
Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance
This year, the festivities will extend to Tung Lo Wan Road with a live broadcast at Victoria Park. The scope of the performance will be expanded for three consecutive nights, allowing more people to enjoy the celebration in Hong Kong.
Time:
- Sept. 16 (Monday), 7:30–10:30 p.m
- Sept. 17 (Tuesday), 7:30–11:30 p.m.
- Sept. 18 (Wednesday), 7:30–10:30 p.m.
Location:
- Wun Sha Street and Tung Lo Wan Road, Tai Hang, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong Island
- The Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance will move to Victoria Park from 10:30 p.m. on Sept. 17.
In addition, about 100 children will demonstrate their hard work by joining the dance with tiny fire dragons lit up by about 10,000 LED lights, interpreting the traditional festive culture in a new way. The dazzling little fire dragons and the centuries-old classic fire dragons will be displayed at the same time, a symbol of cultural inheritance.
Drone Show
To celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, 1,000 drones will take off from the Wan Chai harbourfront to illuminate the night sky over Victoria Harbour. These drones will weave multiple Mid-Autumn Festival-themed patterns, such as the rabbits, traditional lanterns and fire dragons soaring across the sky.
