Watch This | Widespread destruction: Typhoon Yagi hits Hainan with 17-level winds

Super typhoon Yagi landed in the coastal area of Wengtian Town, Wenchang City, Hainan around 16:20 today (Sept. 6), with a maximum wind force of more than 17 (62 m/s) near the center at the time of landing.

The Central Meteorological Administration (CMA) said Yagi was the strongest typhoon ever to make landfall in China in autumn.

Yagi's 7-level wind circle had completely covered Hainan Island by the afternoon, with the edge of the 12-level circle reaching Wenchang.

A large number of netizens in Hainan shared the devastation caused by Yagi, including a large number of trees blown down, air-conditioners blown off homes, and a large number of signboards and windows blown off on the streets. Some trees were even blown to the extent that they were hit by power cables, causing sparks. Some people also saw RMB flying through the windows of their homes.

The weather station in Haikou, Hainan, has issued a red rainstorm warning in the afternoon, with cumulative rainfall in the city expected to reach more than 200 millimeters in the next 12 hours.
