Yagi intensifies into super Typhoon, HK on alert
The Observatory announced at 11:45 PM on September 4 that Typhoon "Yagi" had intensified into a Super Typhoon.
The Observatory stated that the No. 3 Strong Wind Signal will remain in effect until noon today (September 5). If "Yagi" continues on its current predicted path and continues to strengthen, wind speeds in Hong Kong are expected to increase later today, and the Observatory may need to issue a higher tropical cyclone warning signal this afternoon or evening.
The No. 3 Strong Wind Signal is currently in effect, with average wind speeds in Hong Kong expected to range from 41 to 62 kilometers per hour.
Yagi was approximately 430 kilometers southeast of Hong Kong at midnight, near 19.2 degrees north latitude and 116.6 degrees east longitude. It is forecasted to move west at about 10 kilometers per hour, crossing the northern South China Sea while continuing to strengthen.
