Alibaba's Taobao plans to fully introduce WeChat Pay, marking a significant collaboration between Alibaba and Tencent, according to sources.
WeChat Pay is not yet available on the Taobao app. Taobao's customer service confirmed that WeChat Pay is in a trial phase and not fully open. WeChat stated that functionality is being adapted for Taobao merchants, with updates to follow on the platform.
The integration was a confidential project within Alibaba, initiated six months ago by the user tools team. In June, some Taobao app users began testing WeChat Pay for certain purchases. Alibaba has not yet responded to inquiries about this development.
