The Chief Executive, John Lee, met the Secretary of the CPC Shaanxi Provincial Committee, Zhao Yide, at Government House today (September 3) to exchange views on deepening Hong Kong's cooperation with Shaanxi.

Also attending the meeting were the Chief Secretary for Administration, Chan Kwok-ki; the Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Erick Tsang Kwok-wai; and the Director of the Chief Executive's Office, Carol Yip.

Lee welcomed Zhao's visit to Hong Kong with his delegation. Lee highlighted that Shaanxi holds an important position in areas such as historical and cultural heritage, tourism resources, higher education, and technological development, while Hong Kong actively develops and consolidates its position of "eight centers" as outlined in the National 14th Five-Year Plan. He said he believes that Shaanxi and Hong Kong can strengthen exchanges and cooperation to achieve mutual complementarity and mutual benefits.

Lee noted the people-to-people exchange between Shaanxi and Hong Kong is frequent. The Shaanxi Provincial Government has been providing valuable internship opportunities for Hong Kong youth at cultural and museum institutions in Shaanxi for years, and the Education Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government organized a Yan'an revolutionary history study tour for teachers for the first time this April.

He said he believes that more Hong Kong teachers and students will visit Shaanxi for learning and exchange. Noting that Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, has been included as one of the Mainland cities eligible for the Individual Visit Scheme since March this year, Lee welcomes more tourists from Xi'an to visit Hong Kong and experience the unique charm of the city, promoting cultural integration and people-to-people bonds between the two places.

In addition, CE met the Secretary of the CPC Jiangxi Provincial Committee, Yin Hong, at Government House today (September 3) to exchange views on strengthening Hong Kong's cooperation with Jiangxi. Also attending the meeting were the Chief Secretary for Administration, Chan Kwok-ki; the Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Erick Tsang Kwok-wai; and the Director of the Chief Executive's Office, Carol Yip.

Lee welcomed Yin's visit to Hong Kong with his delegation. Noting that Hong Kong and Jiangxi have been maintaining close economic and trade relations, Lee said that Hong Kong is the largest source of external investment and an important trading partner for Jiangxi, as well as the main capital market for Jiangxi enterprises listed overseas. He encouraged Jiangxi Province to leverage Hong Kong's unique and dual roles in going global and attracting foreign investment, with a view to bringing its economic development to a higher level.

Lee said that the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Wuhan of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) will continue to serve as a bridge to promote exchanges and cooperation between Hong Kong and Jiangxi. Noting that the number of students choosing to pursue studies in Jiangxi high schools has been increasing in recent years, Lee expressed his gratitude to Jiangxi Province and the relevant high schools and organizations for their ongoing care and support for Hong Kong students.

He also said that the HKSAR Government will continue to actively encourage young people in Hong Kong to explore the enormous development opportunities on the Mainland and to integrate into the overall development of the country, thereby contributing to the country and Hong Kong.
