South Korea has seen a rise in the number of cases of deepfake pornography crimes utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The Guardian, citing Yonhap News Agency, reported that a chat room on the messaging software Telegram attracted as many as 220,000 people, many of whom used AI technology to fake pornographic images of women and even underage girls, and some of the members of the group were also minors themselves.

South Korean police launched a seven-month operation on Wednesday (Aug. 28) to hunt down people who create and distribute pornographic content.
