Embassy Spokesperson: British officials should stop disrupting the rule of law in HK
Best Pencil (Hong Kong) Limited, former editor-in-chief Chung Pui-kuen, and former acting editor-in-chief Patrick Lam of 'Stand News' have been charged with conspiracy to publish and reproduce seditious publications. The case was finally decided at the District Court yesterday (Aug. 29). Three defendants were all found guilty.
A British official posted irresponsible remarks on X about this criminal case, making baseless allegations about press freedom in Hong Kong.
Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland released "Embassy Spokesperson on UK side's wrongful remarks related to Hong Kong" on its website today (Aug. 30).
The spokesperson contended that Hong Kong upholds the rule of law. Hong Kong laws protect press freedom and freedom of speech, and in the meantime punish any criminals, which is essential for the rule of law.
"It is completely inappropriate and unacceptable for the relevant British official to make a case for suspected criminals and point fingers at the trial of the criminal case in Hong Kong court. We urge British officials to stop disrupting the rule of law in Hong Kong and stop interfering in the internal affairs of China."
