The Chinese Olympic delegation will visit Hong Kong from the 29th to the 31st of this month in preparation for the 2024 Paris Olympics, participating in a grand performance and sports demonstrations. Among the athletes visiting Hong Kong is Sun Yingsha.
In an exclusive interview aired on CCTV's program on August 25, Sun, the first "post-2000" world number one in the International Table Tennis Federation, expressed her feelings about talent and hard work.
"I believe I have talent, but I wouldn't consider myself a genius," she said. "To reach the top level definitely requires effort and talent, but I think effort comes first," Sun said.
Actually, Sun's daily training schedule is rigorous. "Typically, we start morning exercises at 7:30 am, but I begin at 6:30 am to practice my serves," she explained. After a full day of training, she often adds extra practice. "Normally, we finish from 7 pm to 9 pm, but I will extend my training by another 30 to 40 minutes before going home to shower, eat, and receive treatment. Then, I woke up at 6:30 am the next day. This schedule repeats daily."
When asked why she pushes herself to train even harder despite the already demanding routine, Sun responded, "Because I want to be better than the average person. That's just how it is. I feel quite happy when I am constantly chasing my dreams and pursuing my goals."
