China's first AAA game Black Myth Wukong receives huge welcome with online players exceeding 1.4 mn

China's first 3A game, Black Myth: Wukong, was officially unlocked and launched at 10 am today (Aug. 20). The game, which was launched in February 2018, has been under development for six and a half years and has finally been delivered to players around the world.

As of 2:00 pm, Black Myth: Wukong has 1.4 million online players on Steam, topping the global top games lists and continuing to rise.

Black Myth: Wukong is a single-player action role-playing game based on the theme of Journey to the West, developed by Game Science Interactive Technology Co.

The game is based on the Journey to the West, which tells the story of Sun Wukong, who was crowned as the Yuddhajaya after the success of the Tang Monk and his disciples in their quest for the Buddhist Sutra, but gradually disappeared. Players will take on the role of a "Man of Destiny" who, in order to discover the truth of the past legend, embarks on a journey full of danger and surprises.

Feng Ji, the founder of the Game Science Interactive Technology Co, revealed in an interview with the media recently that the development cost per hour of player experience for Black Mythology: Wukong is about RMB 15 million to RMB 20 million, and the team estimated that the overall gameplay will last more than 15 hours, while the actual research and development time is more than one and a half times of this time. If this is the benchmark, the R&D cost will be at least RMB 400 million. Currently, Black Myth: Wukong is priced at RMB 268 for the standard version and RMB 328 for the digital deluxe version on Steam. The company will need to sell at least 3 million copies with this price in order to make a profit.

In addition, all the ancient buildings in the game are from the game development team visited many provinces and regions and highly restored in the game, such as the Dule Temple in Tianjin, Yuhuang Temple in Jincheng in Shanxi Province, the Dazu Rock Carvings in Chongqing, etc.
