HKUST and PolyU consult on govt's proposal of establishing a third Faculty of Medicine
Lo Chung-mau, Secretary for Health, said a few days ago that the government will adopt a multi-dimensional approach to make up for the shortage of doctors in Hong Kong, including enhancing the training and development of local doctors and that they are considering the proposal of establishing a third Faculty of Medicine.
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) indicates that it is in discussion with the government on the details of the proposal to establish the Faculty of Medicine and hopes that the project can be taken forward as soon as possible.
The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) says that it intends to establish the Faculty of Medicine in the Northern Metropolis, emphasizing the integrated development of medicine and health sciences, which can meet the future healthcare needs of 2.5 million residents in the Northern Metropolis as well as those of the Greater Bay Area. It will set up a team of experienced experts to consult on the establishment of the Faculty of Medicine and related curriculum, which helps nurture healthcare professionals in Hong Kong.
