WTA 125 to be held at Victoria Park Tennis Court from Sept. 30 to Oct. 6

The Hong Kong, China Tennis Association (HKCTA) announced today (Aug. 16) that the WTA 125 will be added to the Hong Kong Tennis Open this year, marking the first time for Hong Kong to hold this international women's professional tennis tournament. It will be held at Victoria Park Tennis Court from Sept. 30 to Oct. 6, 2024.

Chinese famous tennis players Wang Qiang, who has won two singles titles on the WTA Tour and one WTA 125 singles title, and Zhang Shuai, a two-time major champion in women's doubles, will participate. Hong Kong China's tennis players, including Wu Ho-ching, Ng Man-ying, Leong Kwan-tung, Eudice Chong and Wong Hong-yi, will also participate in the tournament.

Other women's professional tennis tours are to be held. WTA 250 will be held from Oct. 26 to Nov. 3, 2024. ATP 250 will be held from Dec. 29, 2024 to Jan. 5, 2025. HKCTA expects that the Open Series will attract 180,000 residents and tourists.

Michael Cheng, president of the HKCTA, hopes that the tournaments will promote the future development of local professional and amateur players and offer them the opportunity to compete with high-level international players. He also hopes that there will be a live broadcasting of the tournaments.
