Crackdown on fandom-related cyber crimes: Ministry of Public Security takes action

The cyber security departments of the public security bureau have attached great importance to the phenomenon of fandom and have continued to work with the relevant departments to crack down on illegal and criminal behavior in related areas by the law.

During the Paris Olympics, the Chinese cyber security departments paid close attention to developments related to the Paris Olympics and effectively strengthened targeted measures. The Ministry of Public Security on Aug. 15 announced four typical cases of crackdowns and remediation of illegal and criminal acts in the field of sports fandom.

Beijing public security organs investigated the case, which was suspected of defamation by the surname He. The suspect surnamed He (female, aged 29, from Suzhou, Jiangsu Province), was found to have posted defamatory information about table tennis players and coaches on online social media platforms, causing a bad social impact. On August 6, the Beijing public security authorities took criminal coercive measures against her following the law.

The Guangdong public security authorities investigated the case of Wang's alleged defamation. The suspect Wang (female, 38 years old, from Guangzhou, Guangdong Province) was found to have repeatedly posted abusive and defamatory information about table tennis players and coaches on online social media platforms, causing a bad social impact. The Guangdong public security authorities took criminal coercive measures against her on August 13 per the law.

Shandong and Hebei public security organs investigated the case of Gai and Xu, who were suspected of cyber violence. It was found that Gai (male, 23 years old, from Shandong Province), on the evening of August 3, fabricated the content of the Paris Olympic Games, mainly to question the champion of a project), Xu (male, 23 years old, from Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province) openly released the article on social media platforms, resulting in adverse social impacts. Shandong and Hebei public security authorities were administering penalties for the two people.

Henan public security authorities investigated the case of Yang, who was suspected of cyber violence. It was found that Yang (female, aged 18, from Jiaozuo, Henan Province) had publicly abused gymnasts on an online social networking platform, causing an adverse social impact, and the Henan public security authorities imposed administrative penalties on her under the law.

The Internet security departments of public security authorities will continue to strengthen their work initiatives and crack down on sports-related fandom offenses and crimes following the law. At the same time, it reminds the majority of Internet users the network is not beyond the law, does not spread rumors and information, and does not attack and defame others.
