The chaos in the Mainland's fandom is even spreading to the sports sector.

On August 3 (Paris time), in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games women's singles final, Chen Meng defended her title against her teammates to win the gold medal, while Sun Yingsha won the silver medal.

It was an exciting match, but there was a lot of drama for the athletes' fans. Sina Weibo's official account for community management issued an article today (Aug. 4), stating that it had cleaned up more than 12,000 pieces of non-compliant content and banned more than 300 offending accounts from speaking in phases until permanently, depending on the degree of non-compliance involved in the discussion of the relevant matches in the past two days.

Weibo pointed out that some of the audience's irrational behavior during the game caused controversy on the Internet, and some individual users took the opportunity to repost the content of malicious speculation from other websites and even released irrational comments offensive to the athletes and members of the coaching staff, which was severely dealt with by Weibo.

Weibo emphasizes that the prosperous development of sports in China cannot be separated from the contribution of every athlete who works hard on the field of play, and every athlete who does his best to win for his country deserves our respect. Unwarranted speculations, abuses and even violations of athletes' privacy are all detrimental to athletes and even to the Chinese sports industry.

Weibo advocates the majority of users to focus on the game, have rational discussion, refuse trolling and slandering, and respect the efforts of each athlete.
