Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu said that he would strive for the arrival of a pair of giant pandas in Hong Kong on Oct. 31 during his visit to Sichuan earlier. It is learned that Kevin Yeung Yun-hung, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, will leave for Sichuan this week to follow up on their arrival. It is expected that they will most likely arrive in Hong Kong before National Day.

The National Forestry and Grassland Administration has selected a pair of strong, adult giant pandas aged between five and eight for the aim of breeding, with the male one being agile and nimble and the female one being lovely and cuddly, which corresponds to the expectation of Hong Kong, according to Lee.

Yeung mentioned that Ocean Park would improve the facilities of Panda Village, including the installation of additional equipment for photography to share the activities of the giant pandas with the public in real-time.
