Over 20,000 foreign permanent residents in HK applied for Mainland permits: CTS
The central government earlier announced measures to benefit Hong Kong, allowing non-Chinese Hong Kong permanent residents of Hong Kong and Macao to apply for a permit to travel to and from the mainland. According to CCTV News, the CTS (China Travel Service) Entry Permit Service Hong Kong Limited revealed that 20 days after the implementation, more than 20,000 people have made an appointment to apply for the permit.
A department general manager of CTS said the policy has been generally well received by all sectors in Hong Kong, describing the response as enthusiastic, and that other eligible applicants will gradually receive their documents on schedule.
Holders of the Permit can enjoy the convenience of five-year multiple-entry permits and speedy boundary-crossing at control points. After completing the fingerprint collection procedures, the permit holder is exempted from filling in the foreigner entry card and can go through the express channel.
In addition, applicants can submit their application materials online, and make an appointment for offline processing time after review, which means fewer errands and higher efficiency. This marks a new chapter in the practice of "one country, two systems" in the field of immigration, according to CCTV.
