HA appeals for organ donation and seeks assistance from mainland
The Hong Kong Hospital Authority (HA) made an urgent appeal today (July 31) regarding a patient currently hospitalized at Queen Mary Hospital who is in critical condition and requires an immediate heart transplant. The HA encourages the public to actively support organ donation and consider donating the heart of a deceased loved one to continue the legacy of love.
The HA stated that the patient's condition was extremely urgent. In addition to searching locally for a suitable heart, the HA will also expedite the necessary procedures to seek assistance from the mainland.
The HA emphasized that upon finding a suitable heart, it will strictly adhere to relevant organ transplantation regulations and promptly apply to the regulatory authority to ensure that all procedures meet the required standards and legal requirements, and will arrange for the transplant surgery as soon as possible to provide the patient with a chance for rebirth.
The HA noted that for patients suffering from organ failure, organ transplantation is often their only hope for survival. When deceased patients and their families selflessly donate organs to save the lives of those in critical condition, it not only offers hope for rebirth to the critically ill but also alleviates the hardships faced by the families of patients.
