OCMFA warns US consul general in HK: Adhere to duties and cease attacks on HK
In response to U.S. consul general in Hong Kong Gregory C. May's recent interview, where he made unfounded remarks about Hong Kong affairs and claimed that the rights and freedoms in Hong Kong are being eroded, the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region expressed strong dissatisfaction.
A spokesperson stated that since the implementation of the Hong Kong National Security Law and the Special Administrative Region's Safeguarding National Security Ordinance, Hong Kong society has returned to stability, and the rights that citizens are entitled to under the law have been effectively safeguarded.
Hong Kong has undergone significant changes and has entered a new phase of governance and prosperity precisely because those with ulterior motives have lost the "freedom" to engage in violence, the "freedom" to storm the Legislative Council, and the "freedom" to collude with external forces to disrupt Hong Kong.
The spokesperson emphasized that as a representative of the U.S. government in Hong Kong, Consul General Gregory C. May should adhere to the basic professional ethics and conduct expected of consular officials. He should promote cooperation between Hong Kong and the U.S. instead of fabricating lies and attacking Hong Kong's reputation. The spokesperson advised consul general Gregory C. May to adhere to his duties, change his approach, abandon his intentions of using Hong Kong to contain China, and immediately cease interference in Hong Kong affairs and China's internal matters.
