Leung Chun-ying: National security acts as key to society
Vice Chairman of the CPPCC, Leung Chun-ying, emphasized that national security is the prerequisite for the survival and development of society, and the entire community needs to work together to promote the importance of national security. He called on citizens to be guardians of national security.
Leung stated that national security is closely related to the well-being of citizens. "Only with a peaceful and stable environment can society and the economy develop, allowing citizens to live and work in peace and enabling the next generation to thrive," said Leung.
As Hong Kong is the country's most open gateway to the world, Leung hopes citizens remain alert, discern right from wrong, and strive to tell the story of "One Country, Two Systems" well.
Leung delivered this congratulatory message today (July 30) at the "National Security 18 Districts Competition" award ceremony through Raymond Tang, Chairman of the Board of the Together Foundation.
"National security risks still exist, and everyone must remain vigilant and continue efforts to raise awareness and promote national security," said Chris Tang, Secretary for Security.
Tang mentioned that with the formal implementation of the National Security (Legislative Provisions) Ordinance in March this year, Hong Kong has finally fulfilled its constitutional responsibility under Article 23 of the Basic Law, improving the related legal system and enforcement mechanisms.
Tang stated that the government will continue to promote national security, including establishing a National Security Museum and training local tutors to promote national security education. He also called on all sectors of society to work together to spread awareness, foster a more effective security barrier for Hong Kong, and allow the city to "focus on the economy, seek development, and benefit people's livelihoods" without worries.
Tang praised the "National Security 18 Districts Competition" for successfully attracting over 210,000 participants, showing that many people value national security.
During the competition, 20 short informational videos on national security garnered over 2 million cross-platform views, the competition website recorded over 1.2 million visits, and more than 210,000 people participated.
