Watch This | Political democracy and healthy market economy make HK unique: Cui Jianchun

Cui Jianchun, Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, met with the media this morning (July 30).

In response to some questions, Cui discussed the unique democratic system of Hong Kong, emphasizing the "one country, two systems" framework. He highlighted the importance of political democracy and a healthy market economy in Hong Kong and compared it with the development of a high-standard market economy in Mainland China.

He also stresses the significance of understanding the market economy, referencing recent political events in China.

Furthermore, Cui addressed the importance of civil society and the rule of law in both Hong Kong and mainland China. He noted that democracy cannot exist without the rule of law, a market economy, and a civil society, which are essential for good governance.

Cui expressed admiration for Hong Kong as a unique and vital business hub, acknowledged by various international entities for its value as a super-connector and value-adder in the global market.

Cui's remarks convey a deep appreciation for Hong Kong's social fabric, emphasizing the city's role as a beacon for business. He believes that Hong Kong serves not only the interests of its people and society but also those of mainland China and the international community, demonstrating a strong commitment to the city and its potential as a global economic powerhouse.
