Beijing suspends rail operations due to high alert for significant rainfall

Tuesday (July 30) saw the issuance of orange alerts for heavy rain in numerous northern and western districts of Beijing, China. This is the second-highest level of the city's four-tier warning system, and it resulted in the suspension of several train services.

According to the municipal meteorological department, heavy rain started to lash the city on Monday at midnight. By 10 a.m. Tuesday, the average precipitation of the city reached 42.9 mm, with the maximum rainfall recorded in Changping District.

The districts of Shijingshan, Haidian, Mentougou, Changping and Huairou have issued orange alerts for rainstorms.

All train service has been suspended on the railway linking Huairou and Miyun districts, and the railway between Tongzhou and Miyun districts.

The Beijing Water Authority and the Beijing Meteorological Service jointly issued flash flood warnings, as the risk remained high in the suburban districts of Miyun, Pinggu, Yanqing and Huairou. They also gave a waterlogging warning to the urban districts of Chaoyang, Fengtai, Shijingshan, Haidian, Tongzhou, Changping and Daxing.
