John Lee: President Xi hopes HK youth to make contributions to nation

Chief Executive John Lee said that President Xi Jinping earnestly hoped that young people in Hong Kong would gain a deep understanding of the world's development, the history and culture of the country as well as its realities, cultivate a sense of nationalism, sharpen their skills, and grow up to become pillars of the future as soon as possible so that they could make a contribution to the building of a new and beautiful Hong Kong and the revitalization of the nation. The Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association (HKNGCA) and the International Cooperation Center of China Aerospace held a sharing session on the first anniversary of President Xi Jinping's reply letter from Hong Kong students at the Hong Kong Science Park at 3:00 p.m. today (July 20).

Chief Executive John Lee said that President Xi Jinping earnestly hoped that young people in Hong Kong would gain a deep understanding of the world's development, the history and culture of the country as well as its realities, cultivate a sense of nationalism, sharpen their skills, and grow up to become pillars of the future as soon as possible so that they could make a contribution to the building of a new and beautiful Hong Kong and the revitalization of the nation.

Lee pointed out that the reply letter demonstrates President Xi's care and encouragement for Hong Kong students and his recognition of Hong Kong's efforts in patriotic education, and is an encouragement to all schools in Hong Kong as well as an important guideline for the entire education sector.

Lee continued that in the past year, the SAR Government and the education sector have been actively implementing the spirit of President Xi Jinping's reply, building up students' patriotism and ambition to serve the country, enabling them to experience the latest development and achievements of the country from different perspectives, and helping them to integrate theories on books and practice in the reality to cultivate a sense of patriotism among the younger generation.

"Two years ago, when President Xi visited Hong Kong, he came to the Hong Kong Science Park and exchanged views with Hong Kong's scientific researchers and young innovation entrepreneurs... President Xi expressed his high expectations for Hong Kong in the country's '14th Five-Year Plan' to build an international innovation and technology hub, and encouraged Hong Kong's young people to excel and fulfill their dreams in the life of struggle for innovation and entrepreneurship."
