Chan Wing-mei, co-founder of the Newport Circuit and known as the King of Cinemas, passed away.

The Hong Kong Motion Picture Industry Association and the Hong Kong Theatres Association issued obituaries yesterday (July 8): "Mr. Chan Wing-mei, a senior figure in the cinema and film industry, director of Newport Entertainment Limited, former president and current advisor of the Hong Kong Theatres Association, has sadly passed away. Our association deeply mourns his passing and fondly remembers him. Throughout his life, Mr. Chan made significant contributions to the cinema industry and the film sector. He is highly respected, friendly, and well-loved by industry peers. His passing is a great loss to the Hong Kong cinema industry and the film sector. We extend our deepest condolences to Mr. Chan's family and sincerely hope they find solace in this difficult time."

The obituary also disclosed the funeral arrangements: "It is known that his family will hold a funeral service on Friday (July 19), at the Hong Kong Funeral Home, followed by the funeral the next day. This notice is to inform all members."
