Hong Kong residents visiting Macao can use the e-Channel self-service boundary crossing system at the Macao SAR border control point, according to the Immigration Department of the HKSAR government.

The newly relocated Tseung Kwan O department headquarters has set up a registration counter for Macao self-service cross-boundary service. Upon completion of the registration formalities, visitors can use the Macao e-Channels to cross the boundary. In addition to the previous self-service crossing method of scanning identity cards and fingerprints, touchless e-Channels are now also available at all control points in Hong Kong for verification of identity through encrypted QR codes and face recognition technology.

Eligible persons aged 11 or above holding a Hong Kong permanent resident identity card, or aged 11 or above holding a Hong Kong resident identity card with an HKSAR visa identity card valid for not less than one month can register for the Macao SAR's self-service cross-boundary system, and use the Hong Kong-Macao cross-boundary mutual-use QR code of mobile phones or smart ID cards to cross the self-service boundary, and verify identities through fingerprint recognition technology.

Apart from checking in at the Macau Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal, Taipa Ferry Terminal and Macau Airport, eligible Hong Kong residents may also pre-register in Hong Kong at the self-service check-in kiosks located at the Hong Kong-Macau Ferry Terminal, China Ferry Terminal, Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge control point and all the personnel registration offices in Hong Kong.
