China box office surpasses RMB 1.5 bn during May Day holiday
The five-day May Day holiday in China ended on Sunday with box office receipts of over RMB 1.52 billion yuan (about US$210 million). This made the holiday the third highest-grossing in history.
According to film data platform Beacon, the holiday witnessed a record-breaking number of screenings, totaling 2.4 million.
Leading the holiday sales chart was the action thriller "Formed Police Unit," which earned RMB 405 million. It was followed by the Chinese comedy "The Last Frenzy," which explores life's choices in the face of death, with RMB 390 million.
Hong Kong action crime thriller "Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In" secured the third position, earning a total of RMB 252 million during the holiday.
