BRI & HK | HK's 'water affair' with Sri Lanka: All started with an unexplained illness?
In September last year, the Director of Environmental Protection, Dr. Chui Ho-kwong, Assistant Director Dr. Yang Rong and other two officials showed up at the airport. They were invited by the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences to attend the International Symposium on Environmental Microbes of Health Concern held under the Belt and Road (B&R) Initiative in Beijing. Various experimental supplies and a meter-long water testing board were packed into their luggage in preparation for their presentation in the capital.
As the symposium unfolded, Dr. Chui shared his experience on the whole process of virus detection in wastewater with about 30 Chinese and foreign scholars, while Dr. Yang introduced microbial water quality monitoring at beaches in Hong Kong. During the exchange, Dr. Chui told a story about drinking water between Chinese Academy of Sciences and Sri Lanka.......
