The police will launch a large-scale law enforcement operation across Hong Kong in mid-August, which will impose a maximum fine of HK$2,000 on anyone convicted of jaywalking.
To raise pedestrians' awareness of road safety and reduce traffic casualties caused by jaywalking, the police will conduct a pedestrian safety campaign in two phases for three days from today (July 31) to August 2 plus two days from August 10 to 11.
During the campaign, educational activities on pedestrian safety will be conducted in a total of 25 designated locations in HK Island, Kowloon and the New Territories.
The operation involved officers from the Traffic Branch Headquarters and the Regional Road Safety Unit, together with the Junior Police Call, Senior Police Call and all members of the Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol.
