Opinion | Fully unified in the spirit of 20th National Congress of Communist Party of China

By Dr. Lau Chung Hang

Hong Kong has always had the unique advantage of "relying on the motherland and connecting the world." In the post-epidemic world, where a lot of flowers are competing for beauty, Hong Kong must make good use of its advantages if it wants to stand out and achieve greater glory, that is, it must compete with the Mainland. To work more closely together. In fact, actively integrating into the country's overall development will create a broader space and opportunities for Hong Kong's post-epidemic development, which will be beneficial but not harmful.

Closer co-operation with the Mainland can extend beyond actions. The spiritual aspect must also be compatible with the country's development philosophy. The benefit is maximized. In the past few days, the "Hong Kong and Macao System In-depth Study and Implementation of the Party's 20th National Congress" was held in Beijing. The Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, the Executive Deputy Head of the Central Hong Kong and Macao Work Leading Group and the Director of the Leading Group Office, and the Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council attended the meeting. Xia Baolong pointed out that Hong Kong must adhere to the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China into practical actions and concrete work. This just reveals how Hong Kong should fully cooperate with the country in terms of spirit and philosophy, so as to achieve "unity of form and spirit."

Specifically, how should Hong Kong comprehend and implement the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress? In fact, the essence of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China report concerning the work of Hong Kong and Macao is the summary and positive evaluation of the practical experience of "one country, two systems". Since the return of Hong Kong, "one country, two systems" has experienced and overcome various tests. The central government concluded that "one country, two systems" has provided the most fundamental basis for the management of Hong Kong and Macau in the new era. Therefore, people from all walks of life in Hong Kong should understand the meaning of "One Country, Two Systems" more seriously, and take responsibility for it, so as to implement "one country, two systems" more solidly and effectively in their own areas of work.

The "Hong Kong and Macao system in-depth study and implementation of the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China" is quite high-standard. The Central Hong Kong and Macao Work Leading Group Office, the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, the Hong Kong Liaison Office, the National Security Office in Hong Kong, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hong Kong are all present at the meeting. We exchanged speeches on the Internet, which shows how much the central government attaches importance to this issue. The theme of the meeting is clear and distinct, requiring Hong Kong people to study and implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China as the ideological guideline for Hong Kong's post-epidemic development.

The "one country, two systems" proposal, proposed as early as the Deng Xiaoping era in the last century is an extremely creative national policy for the peaceful reunification and modernization of the country. The historical importance of implementing "one country, two systems" in Hong Kong cannot be ignored. The practice of "one country, two systems" in Hong Kong will undoubtedly serve as a model and guide for the peaceful reunification of Taiwan. When President Xi Jinping summed up Hong Kong's development in the past five years in his report to the 20th National Congress, he emphasized how Hong Kong could get out of the predicament step by step from a situation of internal political friction and turmoil by implementing the principle of "patriots governing Hong Kong" and achieved success. A major turning point from chaos to governance, and then entered a critical stage from governance to prosperity.

Closer cooperation with the Mainland is the way out for Hong Kong's future, and the most taboo thing about closer cooperation is "unity between appearance and spirit." It is enough to implement the benefits that come, and implement them.
