The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD)'s "Cheers!" Series will present two stage performance screenings of "The Snow Queen" by the Scottish Ballet at Hong Kong City Hall and Tsuen Wan Town Hall. A sparkling cast of characters will tell an amazing story of love and friendship through elegant dance performance, sharing the joyful and festive atmosphere of winter with adults and kids on the silver screen.

"The Snow Queen" is inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's classic tale, which was also the basis for the animated movie "Frozen". The story begins when the Summer Princess, who lives in the ice palace with the Snow Queen, has seen herself through the enchanted mirror embracing a handsome stranger in the future. She then decides to leave the palace to find him. The princess later recognises in town a handsome young man, Kai, who proposes to his beloved Gerda, as the stranger she saw in the mirror. To bring her sister back to the palace, the Snow Queen steals Kai and bewitches him to forget his true love. Gerda sets out alone to save Kai and reaches the palace. In the end, the Summer Princess returns to her sister, and the Snow Queen's spell is broken. Kai and Gerda are reunited.

The screening was filmed at the premiere at Festival Theatre Edinburgh in 2019. Choreographed by Artistic Director of the Scottish Ballet Christopher Hampson with sets and costumes designed by the award-winning designer Lez Brotherston, the production also features music of Russian composer Rimsky-Korsakov that is played by the Scottish Ballet Orchestra, providing a feast for audiences' eyes and ears.

Founded in 1969, the Scottish Ballet has brought audiences of different places in the world inspiring performances with a creative vision crafted by Scotland over the decades. The company created the world's first digital dance season in 2017, thus opening a new dimension in dance and performing arts viewing, and promoting Scotland's pioneering spirit far and wide.
