The Hong Kong government has announced earlier the introduction of a "reverse quarantine" scheme, under which more residents will be allowed to travel to mainland China after completing pre-departure quarantine locally in makeshift quarantine facilities. The quarantine facilities in the Lok Ma Chau Loop will first be used at the initial stage of implementation.
DotDotNews has learned from a source today (Oct. 24) that the management of the Lok Ma Chau Loop facilities will be handed over to the Security Bureau next week and the Immigration Department will be mainly in charge. The handover is expected to take place next Monday (Oct. 31).
Speaking at a media session last week, Chief Executive John Lee said that the SAR government will adopt the standards set up by the mainland authorities on "closed-loop" management, and that the two sides are still discussing more details including the CT standards for nuclear acid tests.
The quarantine facilities in the Lok Ma Chau Loop can provide about 4,000 rooms and 10,000 beds. Analysts say that if the source of the news is verified, it means that the SAR government has made new progress in negotiating details of the "reverse quarantine" plan with the Mainland counterpart.
