The Minimum Wage Commission has completed the review of the minimum wage level, and employers and employees have reached a consensus and agreed to raise the current hourly rate of HK$37.5 by about 6.7% to HK$40.

The Minimum Wage Commission earlier proposed to raise the minimum wage level to HK$40, an increase of about 6.7%, which, if approved by the Executive Council, will be implemented in May next year.

The statutory minimum wage has been implemented since 2011, when the hourly rate was HK$28, and has been increased four times since then until it was frozen at HK$37.5.
