Be My Guest | Patriotic HK youth devoted to public health development in GBA after postdoc research at Oxford & Harvard

Over the past few years, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area has become one of the most open and economically dynamic regions in China, attracting a continuous flow of talents to the region. In this episode of Be My Guest, we are honored to invite Dr. Ming Wai-kit, an assistant professor in public health and epidemiology at the City University of HK, to share with us his inspiring stories.

Dr. Ming undertook his postdoctoral training at Oxford and Harvard. He completed his fellowship at the Nuffield Department of Women's & Reproductive Health, University of Oxford, and the National Perinatal Epidemiology Unit in the United Kingdom in 2016 and completed his fellowship at the Division of Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacoeconomics, Department of Medicine, Brigham and Women's Hospital, and obtained a master's degree from Harvard University in the United States in 2018.

After graduation, he gave up his high-paying job in the U.S. and chose to return to his motherland. In the eyes of his students, he is a devoted teacher, a dedicated scholar, a responsible doctor and a motivated entrepreneur.

He has over 10 years of experience teaching and mentoring students in medical school. To date, he has supervised over 100 undergraduate and graduate research students. Dr. Ming told us, "It is one of my dreams to become a medical educator and I love my job. The development of my students is closely related to me, and I am happier than them when I see their achievements."

Asked why he gave up his overseas position to work in the GBA, Dr. Ming said, "Because serving the nation was the reason I went abroad to study in the first place."

This year marks the 25th anniversary of HK's return to the motherland. As an outstanding representative of HK youth, Dr. Ming also sends his best wishes for the city: "I hope that HK will be prosperous and stable, and that it will serve other cities in the Greater Bay Area more as an international financial center and international innovation and technology center under the advantage of the 'one country, two systems' principle, and strengthen cooperation with other cities in the GBA".
