Citybus Ltd. announced today (June 10) that, subject to the approval of the Transport Department, the first electric double-decker bus in Hong Kong, "#Mission Zero", will commence service at noon on June 19, running three trips daily on Citybus route 5B from the Hong Kong Stadium Bus Terminus to Kennedy Town.
The electric new double-decker bus will be coloured in dark blue and bright blue instead of the yellow-blue colour scheme when it first arrived in Hong Kong, representing battery and zero emissions.
The bus has a capacity of 113 passengers, including 79 seats equipped with USB charging holes, and has 4G WiFi and a 450 kWh battery with a endurance of over 200 km. Due to the large battery on the bottom floor, the vehicle has less floor space than a diesel of the same length.
Citybus' parent company, Bravo Transport Holdings Ltd., is arranging three government-funded midway stations at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, Central Ferry Piers and Central (Hong Kong Station), which are expected to come into service in the fourth quarter of this year.
