East Rail Line Cross-Harbour Extension | MTR: Admiralty station doubles in size, able to handle passenger flow
The cross-harbour section of the East Rail Line will open tomorrow (May 15). An opening ceremony was held today at the Exhibition Centre station. According to MTR Chief Executive Officer Jacob Kam Chak-pui, the cross-harbour section of the East Rail Line is connected to the core business district of Hong Kong Island and is expected to boost business and convention development activities. The new signalling system and fleet of trains will also lay the foundation for the long-term development of railroads in Hong Kong, and it is believed that the cross-harbour section of the East Rail Line will be able to cope with the passenger demand on working days.
Kam said that MTR will closely monitor the travel ways of the public and accordingly make appropriate adjustments. Admiralty station, which has become a super interchange station, has doubled in size and is expected to be able to handle the interchange passenger flow. After the opening of the cross-harbour section, there will be interchange discounts for feeder buses.
A special train will depart from Exhibition Centre station at 5:25 a.m. tomorrow morning on the first day of the cross-harbour section of the East Rail Line, heading north, while the trains heading south will depart from Shatin at normal times.
