Jointly organized by Hong Kong Ta Kung Wen Wei Media Group, Federation of HK Guangdong Community Organizations, Hong Kong Chinese Enterprises Association, Chinese Banking Association of HK and GBA Fintech Promotion Association, the 2nd GBA Development Forum was held Friday (Nov. 5) morning in HK.
DotDotNews interviews Rinchen Rakshaev, Deputy Consul General of Russia in HK. Below is the transcript of the interview.
Q: What efforts will your side make to foster a long-term cooperative partnership with HK?
A: Thank you for the question. I want to inform you that two leading Russian business associations, Business Russia and Opora Russia, are making efforts to intensify their presence in Hong Kong. Both organizations have appointed special representatives for this purpose. Right now, it is important to help them to establish good working contacts with HK main chambers of commerce. Their close interaction would make the participation of the Russian companies in numerous HK forums, fairs and exhibitions more large scale and effective. And vice versa, it would help to provide information about investment opportunities in Russia to the Hong Kong potential partners in a more targeted way.
Long-term partnership is always about mutual interest and benefit. The governments can build up the legal framework (and we are gradually doing that), create conditions for bilateral cooperation, but it is businesspersons who will find mutual benefit quicker. Sure, there are spheres where the huge potential of cooperation between Russia and HK is obvious (for instance, import of agricultural products and food from Russia to HK). I would also add that we should use our strengths to improve the humanitarian base for the cooperation, we need to organize tours about Russian ballet and opera (it will also help HK to maintain the status of the cultural center of GBA, isn't it?), bring here Russian films and books. We are working in this direction.
Q: What future opportunities do you foresee after HK's better integration into the GBA?
A: I have just listened to the report of the Financial Secretary on the Forum. I found myself thinking that, in general, foreigners could share all directions of GBA advantages, which Mr. Paul Chan was talking about. Sure, above all, the construction of GBA is focused on a new impetus for the development of China, HK and Macao, but it could also bring new choices to their international partners in finance, investments, trade, transport infrastructure, etc., in order to improve an entrance to the market of China via HK. And here we return to the answer to your first question: foreign companies need guidance from the HK teammates.
