No COVID-19 vaccination booking will be required for Hong Kong elderly people aged 70 or above after the government announced a daily walk-in quota of 4,600 for them.

Those eligible can drop by at one of the city's 24 community inoculation centers to take the jab starting July 29, the government said on Tuesday (July 27).

Most centers will distribute 200 walk-in tickets per day while those in Tung Chung and at the Hong Kong International Airport will each distribute 100 tickets every day.

The tickets will be distributed from 7:45 am and people who secure their spots will be scheduled to take their jabs during the day.

Every senior citizen can be accompanied by two caretakers, who could also receive vaccination together. They will be notified of the date when they need to take the second dose.

The government said the walk-in service may be expanded to cover people aged 60 or above if it turns out popular.

Meanwhile, people in Hong Kong can register vaccine shots for up to four weeks before they take their shot starting Wednesday. Currently, they have to take their jabs within three weeks.

As of Monday (July 26), more than 3.06 million people in Hong Kong have taken at least the first dose, representing 45.1 percent of the eligible population. Among them, about 2.27 million have been fully vaccinated.
