This episode of "Shanghai Through Our Eyes" features Hong Yuanshu from South Korea, an enterologist working at Shanghai Minhang Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital.
Hong came to Shanghai to study traditional Chinese medicine in 1993 in order to find a way to cure her relative's disease.
"In China, TCM and Western medicine are well integrated," said Hong. "South Korean doctors said they were very surprised."
29 years have witnessed Hong's efforts of bridging traditional Chinese medicine and traditional Korean medicine.
Hong donated masks to Shanghai University of TCM and its hospital last year.
"Shanghai is an international city," Hong said. "It is also very open. It is a perfect city to live and work in. Shanghai is my second hometown."
Hong was in Shanghai to fight against the SARS, H1N1 flu and COVID-19 in China. Hong has virtually experienced the rapid development of medication in China.
When SARS broke out in 2003, many of Hong's classmates returned to their home countries. She was also afraid so she called her mom in South Korea.
"You are a doctor. Do what you should do," her mom told her.
