Two workers from US Consulate in HK test positive for virus, but refuse quarantine arrangement

The Hong Kong government announced today (March 15) that they had tested more than a thousand residents of Central and Western after an overnight ambush-style COVID-19 lockdown and found two confirmed cases.

The mandatory testing was carried out in Blocks 1 to 5 of the Imperial Court, 23 Old Peak Road, which was completed at about 8:40 a.m. this morning.

A source familiar with the matter told DotDotNews that the two preliminarily confirmed cases found in the lockdown are both staff members from the U.S. Consulate General in Hong Kong and Macau.

It is learned that both of them have refused to comply with the quarantine arrangement on the pretext of "diplomatic immunity." The two are still wandering around the community and going to work as usual, posing a huge risk to the spread of the virus.

The HK government has previously stated that the immunity status and itinerary of foreign consulate personnel are governed by the nature of their official duties, and such diplomatic immunity status must not obstruct the normal operation of the government.

The US Consulate has not yet responded to the incident.
