HKO: Tropical storm Saudel to be closest to HK this evening
The Hong Kong Observatory issued Standby Signal No. 3 early Friday (Oct. 23) morning as tropical cyclone Saudel edged closer to the financial hub.
According to the present forecast track, Saudel will be closest to Hong Kong Friday evening, skirting about 500 kilometers to the south of the territory, the Hong Kong Observatory said in its latest weather bulletin. Local winds will change to easterly by then and strengthen further.
Unless Saudel adopts a track closer to Hong Kong or intensifies significantly, the chance of issuing higher tropical cyclone warning signals Friday will be relatively low, the observatory said.
Members of the public are advised to stay away from the shoreline and not to engage in water sports.
According to the Education Bureau, classes of kindergartens, schools for children with physical disability and schools for children with intellectual disability are suspended Friday.
