Swallows frequently build nests on the roof of the footbridge connecting Shatin Centre and Lucky Plaza. It is reported that the management office demolished the swallows' nests last year, leaving a pair of swallows unable to find their chicks and rendering them homeless. After the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department intervened, the property management company installed artificial nests as a remedy. Many residents were delighted to discover that the swallows had returned to their new nests this year; earlier, six chicks with black-and-white feathers were even spotted inside the artificial nests.
A reporter from DotDotNews visited the site this morning (May 19) and observed that the swallows' nest and the artificial nest had been securely installed on the roof of the footbridge, but neither the parent swallows nor the chicks were in sight. A passerby told the reporter that chicks were frequently seen in the nest last week, but none had been spotted in the past two days. The passerby believed the chicks had grown up and flown away, and that there was likely no human interference involved.
