US President Trump departed for China on May 12 local time. According to foreign media reports, the security detail for this trip could be described as "extravagant." Earlier reports indicated that at least seven C-17 Globemaster III transport planes were sent ahead to transport some of the supplies to Beijing. Foreign media have since revealed further details of the security arrangements.
Air Force One
The presidential aircraft is equipped with state-of-the-art communication systems, a fully equipped medical center, the president's private quarters, an office, conference rooms, and ample space for accompanying personnel. It also has aerial refueling capabilities.
Air Force One is not just a means of transportation, but an "airborne command center." Even over the Pacific Ocean, through advanced encrypted communication systems, the president can maintain real-time contact with the Pentagon, nuclear submarines, and US forces worldwide, ensuring full command authority even if ground communications are disrupted.
The Beast
A custom-made, top-of-the-line armored limousine built by Cadillac. While it resembles a luxury sedan, its actual weight is closer to that of a military-grade armored vehicle. It features military-grade armor, bulletproof glass, and doors approximately 20 centimeters thick, capable of withstanding armor-piercing rounds and roadside bombs. The Beast not only offers ballistic, blast, and biological/chemical protection but also carries a supply of the president's blood type on board for emergencies.
The Secret Service Counter Assault Team (CAT)
This includes USSS tactical vehicles — armored SUVs (typically black Chevrolet Suburbans) used by the CAT. Also, electronic jamming vehicles, codenamed "Watchtower," are equipped with high-powered antennas to disrupt remote-controlled bomb signals and intercept unauthorized drones. Additionally, there is the communications vehicle, commonly known as the "Roadrunner," which serves as the hub linking the motorcade to military satellites, ensuring the president can issue strategic commands at any time, even while on the move.
Marine One
This is not the name of a specific helicopter, but the call sign for any helicopter carrying the President of the United States, such as the VH-3D Sea King or the VH-60N White Hawk. These helicopters can be disassembled for transport and rapidly reassembled upon arrival at their destination, providing the president with point-to-point rapid mobility.
Marine One is operated by the Marine Helicopter Squadron One (HMX-1). This squadron temporarily stations itself at the local airport, maintaining top-level readiness to respond instantly should the president require emergency transportation.
The Nuclear Football
A briefcase containing nuclear launch codes, carried by the president and followed 24/7 by a Secret Service agent. The hard drive inside contains the codes needed to launch a strategic nuclear attack. The Nuclear Football allows the president to issue nuclear orders from anywhere — essentially, the "nuclear button."
The White House Medical Unit
A White House physician and a fully equipped medical team accompany the president on all trips. They can provide advanced emergency medical care aboard Air Force One or on the ground, ensuring the president receives top-tier medical support no matter where he is in the world.
The Secret Service Advance Team
This team arrives at the destination weeks before the president's visit. They are responsible for surveying routes, conducting security sweeps of venues, and establishing secure corridors and emergency evacuation routes.
