According to Xinhua News Agency, U.S. President Donald Trump stated at a press conference on March 9 that the United States is investigating an airstrike on an elementary school in the southern Iranian city of Minab. He once again attempted to blame Iran, suggesting that Tehran may also possess Tomahawk cruise missiles.
U.S. and Israeli airstrikes struck an area containing an elementary school in Minab on Feb. 28. According to Iranian media reports, at least 175 people were killed at the school, the majority of them young girls.
On March 9, Iran's Tehran Times newspaper published a front-page article headlined "Trump, Look Them In The Eyes," featuring photographs of deceased children from the stricken elementary school in Minab, condemning the humanitarian catastrophe caused by the joint U.S.-Israeli military strikes on Iran.
According to U.S. media analysis, the munition characteristics visible in footage of the Minab elementary school strike are highly consistent with U.S.-made Tomahawk cruise missiles. The reports further indicated that U.S. forces are the only participants in the current conflict using this type of missile.
Trump was quoted in his defense as arguing, "The Tomahawk, which is one of the most powerful weapons around, is sold and used by other countries." Iran also has some Tomahawks. They wish they had more... It's sold to other countries. But that's being investigated right now." Trump previously claimed that "Iran should be held responsible" for the school attack.
